The isotonic solution is used as a solvent for preparation or dilution of parenteral medicines. The 10% solution of Natrium chloratum is used in hyponatremia, hypochloremia, metabolic acidosis, water intoxication, hemodialysis procedures, for enhancement of intestinal peristalsis, sanitation of suppurating wounds.
The isotonic solution of Natrium chloratum is applied as an intravenous injection in quantities as required in the particular case. The 10% solution is injected i.v. in quantities from 10 to 30 ml of the solution. It is used topically in the form of compresses.
The product is not used in hypernatremia and hyperchloremia. It should be used with caution in: cardiac failure, generalized edemas, eclampsia and arterial hypertension (10% solution).
Natrium chloratum increases solubility and resorption of mercury dichloride. There are competitive relationships between sodium and lithium ions with respect to their tubular reabsorption, which may lead to increased toxicity of sodium ions. The 10% solution potentiates the effect of Furosemid and salidiuretics.
Practically no adverse effects are observed in proper use of the product. In high doses of the 10% solution, hyperhydration, hypernatremia, hypokalemia and acidosis may be observed.
