Drug form and composition
Ointment. One gram ointment contains: 130 mg Sulfathiazole, 16 mg Chloramphenicol,
2.6 mg , 13 mg Sulfur for external use; 13 mg Borax.
Indications
Streptococcal and staphylococcal skin infections - pyoderma, erysipelas, panaricium,
abscesses, mastitis, secondary infections in dermatosis, hemorrhoids, candidosis.
Dosage and administration
The drug is used topically. The drug is placed on the affected area in a thin
layer 1 to 2 times daily for a period of 3 - 5 days. When necessary, the treatment
can be prolonged with some days.
Contraindications
The drug is not used in cases of hypersensitivity to some of the preparation
ingredients.
Special warnings and precautions
Prolonged treatment courses are not recommended. It can be used during pregnancy
and lactation.
Drug interactions
No clinically significant drug interactions have been observed.
Adverse reactions
In susceptible patients, manifestations of hypersensitivity, local irritation,
and photosensitization can be observed.
Pharmacological mechanisms
Univertan is a combined preparation with strong antiseptic, keratolytic, and
antimycotic action. Sulfathiazole and Chloramphenicol in the preparation have an
antibacterial action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. Nistatin
possesses an antimycotic action, mainly in cases of infection caused by Candida.
Borax has a mild anti-inflammatory action, and sulfur acts antiseptically and keratolytically.
