Drug form and composition
Ointment. One gram ointment contains: 30 mg Ephedrine hydrochloride, 50 mg Sulfathiazole,
75 mg Sodium hydrogen carbonate.
Indications
Acute and chronic rhinitis; rhinosinusitis.
Dosage and administration
The drug is used topically. After cleaning the nasal discharge, the ointment
is applied in each nostril 3 - 4 times daily.
Contraindications
Rhinolex is not used in cases of hypersensitivity to some of the drug ingredients.
Special warnings and precautions
The drug should be used with caution in cases of severe structural heart diseases
and advanced atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, insomnia, and hyperthyroidism.
Drug interactions
No clinically significant drug interactions have been observed.
Adverse reactions
In susceptible patients and after administration of high drug doses, transitory
mild tremor, tachycardia, increased sweating, and rash can be observed. In children,
ephedrine in the drug can induce insomnia and agitation.
Pharmacological mechanisms
Rhinolex is a combined drug. The nasal mucosa shows a very good tolerance to
this drug, with fast vasoconstrictive and antiseptic effect. Ephedrine in the drug
has a sympathomimetic vasoconstrictive effect, reduces the swelling, decreases the
nasal discharge and improves the breathing. Sulfathiazole possesses a wide spectrum
antimicrobial action. The third ingredient of the drug, sodium hydrogen carbonate,
facilitates the liquefaction and elimination of the discharge from the nasal cavity.
