Drug form and composition
Ointment. One gram ointment contains: 30 mg Camphor (racemic); 30 mg Lavender
oil; 9 mg of Anethole; 180 mg Peppermint oil; 40 mg Eucalyptol; 1 mg Clove oil;
5 mg Cinnamon oil.
Indications
For symptomatic treatment of joint and muscle pain; neuralgia and neuritis; headache;
insect bites.
Dosage and administration
The drug is used topically by a cautious massage in the affected areas - joints,
muscles, and temporal zones (in cases of headache).
Contraindications
The drug is not used in cases of hypersensitivity to some of the product’s ingredients,
as well as in children younger than 6 years.
Special warnings and precautions
The patient should be warned to avoid Revulsan use on open wound surfaces and
also to avoid drug application to the eyes and in the oral cavity. There are no
data for fetal harm and also for excretion in the breast milk, when Revulsan is
used topically, but it is recommended during pregnancy and lactation to apply Revulsan
on a smaller surface and for shorter periods.
Drug interactions
Clinically significant drug interactions have not been observed.
Adverse reactions
In susceptible patients Revulsan can induce hypersensitivity reactions with local
manifestations.
Pharmacological mechanisms
After local application on the skin the oils in Revulsan act in synergy, and
this leads to its revulsive, analgesic and mild antiseptic action in the affected
areas of the skin and underlying muscles and nerve endings.
