Drug form and composition
Coated tablets. One coated tablet contains 20 mg Peflavit and 50 mg Ascorbic
acid.
Indications
Peflavit C is indicated, as a part of the complex therapy, in following diseases:
hemorrhagic diathesis and capillary disorders due to different causes; diseases
manifesting with decreased capillary resistance and increased capillary permeability,
including acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, chronic hepatitis, rhinitis, laryngotracheitis,
pneumonia, dermatitis, retinal hemorrhage, inflammatory and degenerative diseases
of the veins and joints, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and infectious diseases.
Dosage and administration
1 tablet, 3-4 times daily; in severe cases 2-3 tablets, 3-4 times daily. The
treatment is usually continued from several days to 1 month, depending on the disease
and the clinical manifestations.
Contraindications
The preparation should not be used in hypersensitivity to any of its ingradients;
in patients with prosthetic cardiac valves; in persons, taking an anticoagulant
therapy; in glucoso-6-phosphate dehydrogenase insufficiency; nephrolythiasis; thalasemia.
Special warnings and precautions
The preparation should be used with care in persons with hypercoagulability,
thrombophlebitis and propensity to thrombosis. It should be used with care in patients
with diabetes also. The preparation should not be taken with meal, as it destructs
vitamin B12 in the gastrointestinal tract. The preparation should be used with care
in pregnant and nursing women.
Drug interactions

vitamin B12 in the gastrointestinal tract. The preparation should be used with care
in pregnant and nursing women.
Adverse reactions
Concomitant treatment with barbiturates reduces elimination of the latter, their
plasma concentrations are elevated and their pharmacology activity is increased.
Bioflavones are recommended in salicylate and arsenic compound overdosing. Peflavit
C could be combined with other capillarotonic preparations.
Pharmacological mechanisms
The preparation is very well tolerated and adverse reactions are very rare. In
high doses the preparation may cause hypercoagulation and propensity to thrombosis.
The combined preparation Peflavit C possesses the effect of the condensed catechines
in the St. John’s worth, and this of the ascorbic acid. St. John’s worth composites,
being bioflavones, possess a capillarotonic effect and reduce the vascular wall
permeability, from other hand, they possess some anti-inflammatory action. Ascorbic
acid, being an antioxydant vitamin, potentiates the effects of bioflavones by activating
the cell metabolism. It exerts a regulatory effect on the oxygenation processes
in the cells, participating in the redox-systems as a universal catalyst. This leads
to normalization of the tissue metabolism, coagulation, reticulo-endothel function
and erythropoiesis. Peflavit C possesses powerful detoxifying and desensitization
effects.
