COMPOSITION:
Ketotifen hydrogenfumarate 1 mg in one tablet and 1 mg in 5 ml syrup.

ACTION:
Antihistamine preparations for prophylaxis and treatment of bronchial asthma.
The preparation possesses a marked antihistamine, slightly antiserotonin action without anticholinergic effect. At higher doses it exercises a slightly suppressing action on CNS. The antiallergic effect is mainly due to the block of H1-histamine receptors. It inhibits phosphodiesterase by increasing the CAMP level. It has been proved experimentally that Ketotifen reduces or prevents skin and bronchial reactions provoked by an antigen which determines its use with prophylactic purpose. In bronchial asthma it does not arrest the fits, but decreases their frequency of application of other drugs used for treatment of bronchial asthma are likewise decreased.
Ketotifen is characterized by its good and rapid absorption.

INDICATIONS:
For prolonged prophylaxis of bronchial asthma, allergic bronchitis, asthmatic manifestations in hay fever; for prophylaxis and treatment of allergic rhinitis and dermaytoses. The peripheral dose not arrest asthmatic fits.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Pregnancy and lactation.

SIDE EFFECTS:
In the beginning of the treatment - sleepiness, slight dizziness, xerostomia, lassitude, which disappear spontaneously.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Combination with oral antidiabetic drugs leads sometimes to thrombocytopenia. The simultaneous administration of Ketotifen with sedative, hypnotic or other antihistamine drugs leads to increase of their action; the same refers to alcohol.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Adults - 1 tablet or 5 ml of syrup, 2 times daily (in the morning and in the evening) during meals.
Children over 3 years - the average daily dose is 0.0025 mg (= 0.125 ml) per 1 kg body weight, twice daily.
After 1-month treatment with unsatisfactory result the dose may be increased.

MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
Syrup in vials of 100 ml.
Tablets of 1 mg in packs of 30.

STORAGE:
Syrup: in a place protected from direct sunlight at temperature 5-15° C.
Tablets: in well-closed packs in a place protected from direct sunlight and moisture at moderate temperature (15-30° C).

EXPIRY:
3 (three) years.
