StockNo Product description
EB0280-418-05 DICAINE VIAL 500 MG/10 ML (0.5%)

COMPOSITION:
Tetracaine hydrochloride 500 mg/10 ml solution

ACTION:
A synthetic local anaesthetic effect of Dicaine is about 10 times stronger than that of cocaine, but in comparison with it Dicaine is 2-5 times more toxic. It has some significant advantages over cocaine - it passes easier through the mucosae, does not increase intraorbital pressure and does not damage the corneal epithelium.

PHARMACOKINETICS:
Dicaine metabolizes in the liver and blood quickly toparaaminobenzoic acid and is completely destroyed within 1-2 h. the local anaesthetic effect of Dicaine occurs 10 min after its application and lasts about 2 h.

INDICATIONS:
For superficial anaesthesia in ophthalmology and otorhinolarynology. Before intubation, bronchoscopy, oesophagoscopy, etc.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
In children below 10 years and in case of hypersensitivity to the preparation. During treatment with sulfonamides.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Overdosage and resorption may provoke toxic effects: vomiting, headache, slight disturbances, convulsions, cardiovascular insufficiency, hypotension and suppression of respiration.

PRECAUTIONS:
For prophylaxis it is advisable to take orally a barbiturate hyptonic 30-60 min before Dicaine anesthesia. If intoxication develops the anaesthetized mucosa is washed with 2 % solution of sodium hydrocarbonate, nitroglycerin is administered sublingually and caffeine or other analeptics - subcutaneously.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Combined therapy with morphine increases dicaine toxicity, ephedrine and adrenalin prolong its anaesthetic effect.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Dicaine is applied locally for superficial anaesthesia. Tampons soaked with 0.5 % Dicaine solution are placed on the respective area of the mucosa. In order to prolong the effect of dicaine, 1-2 drops of 0.1 % adrenaline solution or 2-3 % ephedrine solution are added to each 1-2 ml of dicaine solution.

MEDICINAL FORM AND PACKAGE:
0.5 % solution in vials of 10 ml.

STORAGE:
At moderate temperature (15-30° C).
