COMPOSITION:
Omnoponum (Papaveretum) (Papaverine), 10 mg/ml or 20 mg/ml in ampoules, and 200 mg/10 ml in vials.

ACTION:
Omnoponum is a mixture of opium alkaloids; it is an analgesic narcotic drug possessing sedative activity on the cough center in the brain. Omnoponum is characterized by the analgesic activity typical of alkaloids with phenanthrene structure, as well as by the spasmolytic activity typical of papaverine. Its action is similar to that of morphine, but is better tolerated than the latter due to reduced side effects.

INDICATIONS:
Omnoporum is indicated as an analgesic for treatment of pains due to malignant neoplasm, trauma, biliary colic and renal colic. It may be used for short-term treatment of asthma and irritating cough (laryngotracheitis), and acute gastrointestinal diseases (enteritis, gastritis, diarrhea).

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Omnoponum should not be prescribed to children aged below one years, and should not be used as extreme remedy very cautiously for children from 1 to 4 years; it should not be applied in cases of acute psychosis, acute catatonia, and cachexia.

SIDE EFFECTS:
There is a risk of addiction. In large doses, Omnoponum inhibits the center of breathing in the brain.

PRECAUTIONS:
In case of overdosing, allyl normorphine, naloxone and analeptic drugs (citizin, lobeline, corazol, etc.) should be given as antidotes.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For adults, Omnoponum is applied orally in doses of 0.04-0.02 g; children from 2 to 5 years - 2-6 drops of 1 % solution; children from 6 to 10 years of age - 8-12 drops. Subcutaneously 10 or 20 mg of the solution for injections.
